On Thursday, November 2nd 2023, Voluntary Action Sheffield hosted its Community Awards at Sheffield's Cutlers Hall. The event was attended by hundreds of people and it celebrated the collective spirit, outstanding achievements, and unwavering resilience that define the city's community.
In The Cut: Celebrating the Black barbershop as a shop for healing
On Tuesday 28th October 2023, Sheffield University's student union hosted a pop-up barbershop. Over a dozen students and members of the community were given free haircuts and line ups by three Black barbers from Fades and Top Chopper Hair Studio.

A new mental health alliance aiming to improve the health and well-being of the people of Sheffield has been launched in the city. “Synergy” has more than 100 members including voluntary organisations, decision makers from the local authority, GP’s and experts by lived experience all working together to improves the lives of people with mental health issues.
Charity Launches Prostate Cancer Support Group in Sheffield
Sheffield Prostate cancer Support Group, also known as 1 in 4 SPSG, is a Sheffield-based charity organisation that provides support and information to prevent the recurrence of black men increasingly getting diagnosed with prostate cancer, thus prioritising the inclusion of black men in UK prostate cancer research. The acronym “1 in 4” refers to the fact that one in four black men in the UK will develop prostate cancer at some point in their lives.
