The Commune: Presented by Odd Child Productions

Odd Child Productions presents a day of pop-up Black Cinema in the historic Fly Tower at The Abbeydale Picturehouse. Join us as we screen four films throughout the day with a special evening screening of Passing the Baton: The Legacy of the Windrush Pioneers a documentary film exploring the legacy of the Windrush pioneers and their impact on Sheffield’s cultural landscape. This will be followed by a short discussion with a group of artists and creatives connected to and influenced by the pioneering Windrush elders.

These stories will carry you across the Caribbean and southern American swamp lands to explore climate change in the Louisiana Bayou in Oscar-nominated film Beasts of the Southern Wild, to the Curaçao Junkyard of eleven-year-old Kenza who navigates loss and her coming of age by digging into her ancestral past in Buladó. If you prefer a little rhythm to vibes up the afternoon, you can shake your tailfeather to Cuban rhythms as you journey with a young boy finding his feet through his love of dance in Yuli: The Carlos Acosta Story or buckle up your seatbelts to take a ride with Jimmy Cliff as he heads out to claim his fame in The Harder They Come.

Pop corn is included with every ticket purchase for the day screenings.

Hot food will be included with the Passing the Baton tickets and drinks will be available to purchase on the bar.

This is a limited capacity event so please get your tickets in advance.
