Guinea’s Justice Minister, Alfonso Charles Wright has ordered judges in Conakry and Kankan to start the prosecution process against former President Alpha Conde and many of his former ministers on public embezzlement and corruption charges.

On Thursday 3rd November 2022, Wright released a list of 180 individuals which included former Prime Minister Dr. Ibrahim Kasory Forfana, former Defence Minister Dr. Mohamed Janneh, former Security Minister Dr Albert Damantan Camara and several others who had held government posts during Mr Conde’s 11 year rule. They are all accused of stealing public money for their own benefit.

The first ever UK-Francophone West and Central Africa Trade and Investment Forum was held in London on Wednesday, 19th October, 2022. The long awaited trial of those thought to be responsible for the killings and raping of more than 150 people at Guinea’s national stadium during a political protest began on Tuesday 28th September 2022.

Sierra Leone’s Police have confirmed that 25 people were killed on Wednesday 10th August after violent protests erupted in parts of the country including the capital, Freetown.

According to the force, six of their officers and 21 civilians were killed during the unrest in Freetown and the eastern part of the country in Makeni and Kamakwie. As investigations continue, the Police reports that it has arrested 130 people with further arrests expected in the coming days.

Guinea’s Front National for the Defence of the Constitution (FNDC) have organised a nation-wide protest for Thursday 23rd June. This will be the first protest since the junta took over and is supported by the two main opposition parties in the country. The junta has banned all sorts of protest.
