Black History Month Celebration at Sheffield’s Winter Gardens

Earlier this month, Sheffield’s iconic Winter Gardens came alive with community spirit as the African Cultural Heritage Forum, SADACCA, Sheffield City Council, and partners gathered to celebrate Black History Month. The event brought together voices and performances that honoured the legacy, creativity, and resilience of African and Caribbean communities in Sheffield.

Attendees were treated to inspiring talks from community leaders, educational exhibitions, and captivating artistic performances, each contributing to a powerful narrative of belonging, pride, and cultural excellence. Local artists and cultural groups filled the space with music, fashion, dance, poetry, and vibrant displays with a taste of Africa and the Caribbean through a display of national flags. The event turned the Winter Gardens into a true celebration of heritage and togetherness. The atmosphere was one of reflection and unity, underscoring a collective commitment to both honour the past and shape a more inclusive future. African Voices Platform’s Tchiyiwe Chihana was on the ground, speaking with attendees about what the celebration and the importance of Black History Month in Sheffield.
