Inside Crown of Blood: Music Director Kayefi Osha on the Music in the Play
African Voices Platform (AVP) is an official media partner for Crown of Blood, Utopia Theatre’s major new production in collaboration with Sheffield Theatres.
In this radio interview, Kayefi Osha Co-composer and Musical Director joins Tchiyiwe Chihana to unpack the musical architecture of the play: how music, voice and composition hold ritual, power and emotional consequence within a Yoruba-reimagining of Macbeth.
Alongside the conversation, AVP programmes music from Kayefi’s wider catalogue, placing her compositional practice beyond the stage and into a broader listening context and allowing audiences to hear how her sound travels across theatre, radio and contemporary African diasporic music-making.
Crown of Blood is written by Oladipo Agboluaje and directed by Mojisola Kareem.
On stage at The Crucible, Sheffield Theatres, 2–7 February 2026. This interview is part of AVP’s ongoing editorial coverage of Crown of Blood, spotlighting the artists shaping the work on stage and behind the scenes.
